The University of Botswana is committed to a playing pivotal role in the development of media in Botswana especially in the area of ethics and human rights. This emerged at the World Press Freedom Day commemorations held at the University of Botswana Conference Centre on May 3, 2023.

Third year student, Mr. Maatla Magibisela, is the new University of Botswana Student Representative Council (SRC) President. Mr Magibisela garnered 571 votes, beating Mr. Boniface Seane who got 523, Mr. Tiro Dean Ntwayagae who got 498 while Mr. Thapelo Walebona trailed behind with 119 votes.

Head of the Political, Press and Information Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Botswana and SADC, Mrs Silvia Bopp Hamrouni together with Programme Manager, Ms Laura Virgili, visited the University of Botswana for a tour of its recently established Innovation Centre.

A delegation from Rutgers University in the United States of America on April 11, 2023 visited University of Botswana as part of strengthening relations in different areas of engineering, business, global health, research, training, students and staff exchange.

After 40 years of working for the University of Botswana, Ms Gape Mapii, has bid the institution goodbye following her retirement from service. Born in Mahalapye in 1962, Ms Mapii had been serving the university as Assistant Manager Financial Services at the time of her retirement.

A University of Toronto delegation which the University of Botswana recently hosted in Gaborone, visited Manyana to appreciate community projects aimed at turning the village into a model of a smart village. In 2021, UB entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Manyana Community Development Trust (MACODET) to turn the village into a model of a smart village. University of Toronto is also part of the MoU.

Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja, says the recent Computer Science Education Botswana (CSEdBotswana) Summit has laid the necessary foundation for Botswana’s Reset Agenda and Government Digitization Strategy.

The University of Botswana International Students Association held a recreational sporting event for international students during the university’s short vacation at the UB Stadium on March 21, 2023. The sporting event comprised soccer matches and athletics.
