A delegation from the Pedagogical University of Maputo (UP-Maputo) recently visited the University of Botswana (UB) Faculty of Education for a week-long benchmarking exercise focused on inclusive education and exploring potential opportunities for research collaboration.
The delegation led by Dr Camilo Ussene included Ms Sheila Sitoe (Lecturer), Ms Claudia Jovo (Lecturer) and Professor Mondlane (Lecturer). Speaking during the visit, UB Deputy Vice Chancellor Teaching and Learning, Professor Richard Tabulawa, said UB valued partnerships with other institutions of high learning, highlighting the importance of collaboration in sharing experiences and ideas to enhance the quality of education.
He said such would also help in harmonising skills development and programmes as well as making them relevant to the job market.
UP-Maputo Head of Delegation, Dr Camilo Ussene, said they chose UB for benchmarking given its experience and relevance in running special education programmes. He revealed that UP–Maputo is currently working on reviewing and evaluating inclusive education system to ensure quality and improvement.
Dr Ussene added that areas of interest for the benchmarking exercise included policies on inclusive education, academic programmes, educational structures, learner profiling, early childhood education as well as screening and assessment of students with special needs.
