On the 17th of October 2024, the University of Botswana (UB) celebrated the achievements of many bright students, among them was a trailblazer, Setlhare Nxauwe from Qangwa in the Okavango region. As a San student, Nxauwe’s graduation with a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Science marks a significant milestone, not just for himself but for his community and the San Research Centre that supported him throughout his academic journey. His story is one of perseverance, dedication and a profound connection to the land he calls home.

Chedza Julius is the second and youngest child of Miss Esnath Julius of Tsamaya village in the North-East District of Botswana. Her single-parent mother raised her in a household deeply rooted in the values of self-respect, strength, and discipline.

The University of Botswana (UB) has conferred an honorary Doctor of Letters, Honoris Causa (DLitt), upon veteran unionist Mr Johnson Pikiniki Motshwarakgole. Mr Motshwarakgole’s award is in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the labour movement, humanities and social sciences. The award was presented during the University's 42nd Graduation Ceremony on the 17th of October 2024.

Ambassador Legwaila Joseph Legwaila, a distinguished diplomat and towering figure in Botswana's diplomatic history, has been honoured with an honorary Doctor of Letters, Honoris Causa (DLitt), from the University of Botswana.

Renowned businessman and philanthropist, Mr Abdul Satar Dada, has received an Honorary Doctor of Letters, Honoris Causa (DLitt), from the University of Botswana in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the humanities, social sciences and the business world. The prestigious award was conferred during the University’s 42nd Graduation Ceremony on the 17th of October 2024.
