University of Toronto Assures MACODET Assistance to Turn Manyana into a Smart Village

A University of Toronto delegation which the University of Botswana recently hosted in Gaborone, visited Manyana to appreciate community projects aimed at turning the village into a model of a smart village. In 2021, UB entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Manyana Community Development Trust (MACODET) to turn the village into a model of a smart village. University of Toronto is also part of the MoU.

Prof Nwaigwe Gets UN Appointment as Global Environmental Outlook-7 Expert

Prof Kevin N. Nwaigwe of the Department of Mechanical Engineering has been appointed a Global Environment Outlook-7 expert for United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Prof Nwaigwe is a lead author in the energy transformation policies and solutions pathway. He joins about 100 other experts selected from around the globe to prepare the seventh edition of the global environment outlook (GEO-7).

UB Students Dominate Inaugural Debswana Entrepreneurship Challenge

University of Botswana students dominated this year’s Debswana Entrepreneurship Challenge after scooping first the third positions respectively. First prize of P50 000 went to fourth-year International Business and Economics students, Tumelo Asele (21) and Timothy Lewanika (23) for their Maru Farms Project while third prize went to second-year Mathematics of Finance and Finance students, Setso Seleke (22) and Tebo Lorraine Tshenolo (19) courtesy of their Columba Capital initiative.

Continuous Education Critical to Societal, Personal Development and Job Satisfaction - Prof Norris

Vice Chancellor, Professor David Norris, has underscored the importance of continuous education if society was to adapt easily to the ever-changing environment. Professor Norris was speaking at a two-day University of Botswana Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) retreat held at the UB Conference Centre on February 20-21, 2023 with the aim of examining and repositioning the centre within university’s transformation roadmap.

Twenty University of Botswana Athletes Qualify for the FNBB BOTESSA Championships

A total of 20 University of Botswana athletes have qualified for the First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) Botswana Tertiary Student Sport Association (BOTESSA) championships slated for March 2-3, 2023. The championship will see athletes participating in various track and field sporting events after qualifying at the Southern and Northern Zones qualifiers respectively.
