In a world where academic pursuits often remain confined to ivory towers, Dr Portia Tshegofatso Loeto stands out as a scholar whose work bridges theory and lived experience. A Gender Studies lecturer at the Department of Educational Foundations, University of Botswana (UB), Dr Loeto was recently awarded a postdoctoral fellowship at Michigan State University through the African Futures Leadership Programme under the Alliance for African Partnership (AAP).

“If you love what you do, you will never have to work a day in your life” may be a cliché. However, for Reverend Simon Mulosu, it perfectly sums up his 23-year fulfilling career as a student counsellor at the University of Botswana (UB) Department of Careers and Counselling, where he helped guide students through academic and personal challenges.

The University of Botswana (UB) innovation hub, UNIPOD, in partnership with Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital (SKMTH) and UB Clinic, recently spearheaded an intensive two-day event - 2025 UNLEASH Hackathon - aimed at developing innovative solutions to Botswana’s pressing public health challenges. Themed Empowering Workforce Resilience: Innovation & Change in Africa, the summit convened government officials, private sector leaders, industry experts, and recent graduates for two days of rigorous engagement and high-level discourse on the future of work on the continent.
