The University of Botswana (UB) in collaboration with the Foundation for Studies and Research on International Development (FERDI) based in France, is proud to contribute to a well-functioning health system that works in harmony. This was said by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Professor Ishmael Kasvosve during a three-day Workshop on Health Economics Training held at the University of Botswana on the 10th of June 2024.

The University of Botswana (UB) has entered into a strategic partnership with First National Bank of Botswana (FNBB) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on the 18th of June 2024. Vice Chancellor Professor David Norris signed the MoU on behalf of UB while FNBB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr Steven Bogatsu represented the bank during a signing ceremony held at the FNBB head office in Gaborone.

Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise, Professor Doreen Ramogola-Masire, has been awarded the 2024 World Health Organization (WHO) Sasakawa Health Prize. Professor Ramogola-Masire received the award in Geneva, Switzerland on the 31st May 2024. The Sasakawa Health Prize is awarded for outstanding innovative work in health development to a person or persons, an institution or institutions, or a nongovernmental organization or organizations. Such work includes the promotion of given health programmes or notable advances in primary health care.

Associate Professor of Environmental Health at the University of Botswana, Professor Bontle Mbongwe, has been awarded the World Health Organisation (WHO) Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion. Professor Mbongwe who is Head of the School of Public Health, received the prestigious award in Geneva, Switzerland on 31st May 2024.

The Pan African Indigenous Evaluation (PIE) Consortium which includes the University of Botswana (UB) has received P10 million funding from Mastercard Foundation to undertake a year-long research project aimed at developing and refining evaluation methods rooted in African traditions.

A delegation from the University of Botswana (UB) is currently in The Bahamas on a two-day exploratory visit to the University of the Bahamas (UB). Led by Vice Chancellor, Professor David Norris, the delegation is on a mission to renew and explore more areas of collaboration between the two institutions.

Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Botswana (UB), Mr. Dawid Katzke, says issues of climate change require concerted efforts from all sectors of society. Mr. Katzke made these remarks when officially opening the Tipping Points Explained by Climate Change (TIPPECC) Stakeholder Engagement Workshop on Climate Change held in Gaborone on the 13th of May 2024.

Chair of the Afrospectives, a Global Africa Initiative, Dr Ali Moussa Iye, has underscored the need to rewrite African stories to counter Eurocentric biases and oversimplified narratives which have led to widespread misunderstandings about Africa.
