Final Year Logistics and Supply Chain Student Publishes Book on Communication and Networking

TakudzwaA final-year student in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the University of Botswana (UB) has published a new book aimed at helping young people master communication and networking skills. Mr Takudzwa Mathabire, a dedicated student leader and mentor, drew on his personal journey and academic experiences to offer practical strategies for success beyond the classroom.

Mr Mathabire, who also served as President of the UB Logistics and Supply Chain Management Association, says the book targets tertiary students, new graduates and young professionals struggling to transition from education to the world of work. He was inspired by the challenges he witnessed in his various leadership and mentorship roles. Recognising the high rates of youth unemployment, he wanted to share practical strategies for success that go beyond academic achievement.

Since enrolling at UB in 2021, Mr Mathabire has worn many hats - including Peer Orientator, Student Assistant, Campus Director for the United Nations Millennium Fellowship and SSI tutor under the Careers and Counselling Unit. His leadership efforts have earned recognition from UB Vice Chancellor Professor David Norris, who praised UB’s first-ever UN Millennium Fellowship cohort in 2023.

In addition to his campus roles, Mr Mathabire is a presenter on UB Radio’s “Ambition Amplifier Show,” where he has interviewed high-profile guests such as ambassadors and business leaders. He believes these experiences helped shape his understanding of the importance of communication and relationship-building.

According to Mr Mathabire, communication and networking are not just useful tools but essential life skills and he underscores this by pointing to the University’s mandatory first-year module on Communication Skills. Through his experiences, Mr Mathabire discovered that effective communication and networking are not just desirable skills but essential tools for personal growth and career advancement. “This book is a testimony that what we learn in the classroom at the University of Botswana is convertible into products and value in the real market,” he reckons.

The University of Botswana has congratulated Mathabire on this accomplishment, describing it as a powerful example of how students can turn academic knowledge into real-world impact. The University also encourages other students to use their talents and training to make meaningful contributions to society.
