The University of Botswana (UB) Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation in collaboration with the UB Disability Awareness Association and Student Representative Council (SRC), hosted a two-day wellness event titled “Wellness Weekend – Ignite Your Wellness Journey” on the 28th of February and 1st of March 2025. The initiative purpose of the event was to promote holistic well-being while fostering inclusivity and disability awareness among students and the broader community.
The event featured a range of activities designed to encourage participants to prioritise their physical, mental and emotional health. Fitness challenges, aerobics, dodgeball, water activities and mindfulness sessions were key highlights, offering engaging ways for attendees to enhance their well-being. Health talks also provided valuable insights on maintaining a balanced lifestyle.
The collaborative effort of the organisations underscored the importance of creating an inclusive environment that nurtures all aspects of an individual’s health. A key focus of the event was raising awareness about disability sports and encouraging participation by individuals of all abilities. By promoting wellness as a collective effort, the event empowered students and staff to embrace healthier lifestyles while advocating for greater inclusivity.
