US Air Force and Space Command Officers Visit Department of Political Science to Discuss Defence and Strategic Studies

USA delegation of 15 officers from the United States Air Force and Space Command, currently enrolled in the Regional Security Studies (RSS) course at the U.S. Air War College, on the 5th of March 2025 paid a courtesy visit to the University of Botswana’s (UB) Department of Political Science. The purpose of the visit was to explore Botswana’s political landscape and UB’s role in shaping the nation’s defence and strategic initiatives.

During the engagement, the officers held discussions with key academic personnel including the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Tachilisa Balule. The talks focused on UB’s contributions to military education particularly through its specialised programmes designed to enhance strategic military knowledge.

UB, in collaboration with the Botswana Defense Force (BDF), offers a Master’s as well as a Diploma in Defence and Strategic Studies. Over the years, the programmes have produced a significant number of BDF officers, equipping them with advanced skills in defence strategy and security policy.

The visit underscored UB’s growing role in defense education and international security collaborations, reinforcing its commitment to supporting national and regional security efforts through academic excellence.
