Botswana through a partnership between the University of Botswana and Nigeria’s National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) is poised to benefit from one of Africa’s first bioinformatics and genomics sequencing laboratory.

The Prime Minister of ESwatini, Mr Cleopas Sipho Dlamini, on July 14, 2023 paid a surprise visit to his alma mater, the University of Botswana. Mr Dlamini who was appointed ESwatini Prime Minister by King Mswati III in 2021, is the alumnus of the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland, the predecessor to the universities of the respective countries, presently National University of Lesotho, University of Botswana and University of Eswatini.

In its drive to remain a distinctive centre of academic excellence, the University of Botswana (UB) in collaboration with two Russian Universities are billed to establish a Russian Language Center. The centre has targeted 300 participants as its first cohort slated for early September 2023.

Organisers of the second edition of the University of Botswana Marathon slated for UB Stadium on September 24, 2023, say they are targeting over 3000 runners. The first edition of the marathon which was held last year, registered over 1000 local and international athletes out of which 800 turned up for the event.

A University of Botswana staff member, Ms Lametse Letsebe’s conference paper has been chosen amongst the top best from Africa for a presentation at the Triple Helix International Conference held in LaSalle Ramon Lluli University, Barcelona in Spain on June 25-30, 2023.

UB Hawks’ short journey to Jwaneng for the southern bloc promotional games this past weekend was a sweet one after they secured promotion to Debswana First Division League.Hawks finished the promotional games at the top with eight points after a series of four gruelling matches played from June 30 to July 2, 2023 to pave their way to first division.

University of Botswana is proud of Dr Makamu Sebakeng from the Department of Emergency Medicine and Mr Kgosietsile Bopadile from Campus Services for successfully completing their maiden Comrades Marathon held in South Africa on June 11, 2023.

The University of Botswana and Alliance for African Partnership (AAP) consortium have a launched a project titled: The Evaluation of Inclusive Education Programs for Transition-Age Students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Botswana and Ghana.

University of Botswana and Technovalley Africa have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at creating internship opportunities for UB students and graduates. Technovally is a global leading software consulting company offering training in artificial intelligence, cyber security and data analysis, among others, and is currently setting up its Africa office in Botswana.
