This is a four (4) year accredited, internationally recognized Bachelor of Pharmacy degree offered to candidates with a First Year Bachelor of Science, Advance Level Certificate, holders of a Diploma in Pharmacy Technology or equivalent. The program is offered to you at the School of Allied Health Professions, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Botswana.

The program will equip you with practical skills and competencies in pharmaceutical care, clinical practice, drug monitoring and evaluation, pharmaceutical analysis, dosage form design and manufacturing, supply chain management, medicines regulation, entrepreneurship and research.

The program prepares you for a wide range of employment opportunities in medicine manufacturing industry, community pharmacy, hospital/clinical pharmacy, regulatory, quality control, food industry, academia and also in research, pharmacovigilance and medicine information/toxicology centers, just to mention a few.

It will also equip you to function as part of a multidisciplinary health care team. Upon graduation, you can also specialize in different areas of pharmacy practice such as: industrial pharmacy, pharmaceutics, clinical pharmacy, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmaceutical regulation, and pharmacy law or do residency in areas such as oncology, pediatrics, infectious diseases, geriatrics etc. There are other emerging opportunities that include: radio-pharmacy, pharmaco-informatics, pharmacogenomics,

Career opportunities for Pharmacists

There is a critical shortage of pharmacists in most countries including Botswana. A pharmacist can be employed in both public and private sector nationally, regionally or internationally. Upon completion of training a pharmacy graduate may be employed as clinical pharmacist in hospitals where they provide pharmaceutical patient care.  A pharmacist may also be employed in retail pharmacies, in medical aid providers as managed care pharmacist to evaluate appropriateness, cost effectiveness, safety and clinical effectiveness of medicines prescribed by health care providers, researchers and academicians by training and research institutions. Other career opportunities are in sales and marketing representatives for pharmaceutical products and owning business.
