PhD Physiology

Have since been involved with teaching upon degree qualification. Started as an Anatomy and Physiology tutor at Gaborone IHS for a year before pursuing a BSc(med)Physiology at the Medical University of Southern Africa, followed by a Masters degree with 'Cum Laude' and a PhD qualification in the same field. Winner of the Billiton Bronze Medal Award for the best Postgraduate Research, from the South African Association for the Advancement of Science May, 2000. My research interests are within the line of medicinal plants, their nutritional value, safety and efficacy as tested using laboratory animals. Upon completion of postgraduate studies I resumed work as a lecturer at Gaborone IHS, before joining the department of Biological Sciences, University of Botswana in June 2007 as a lecturer in Vertebrate Physiology. Engaged with teaching and research project supervision for both undergraduate and graduate Research. A member of the UB Institutional Review Board (Biomedical), an external moderator, University of Botswana Affiliated Training Institutions. I have made a number of Conference presentations within the country, region, Africa and beyond. Publications on my MSc and PhD work. A liason officer and member of the Physiological Society of Southern Africa (PSSA) based in South Africa. An editor or the African Journal of Food, Agriculture and Development. Departmental level 200 Coordinator. I have been a warden and wardens' representative for 4 years, residing Blocks 447 and 480.

I have keen interest in working with medicinal plants, investigating their nutritional value, hypoglycemic, antihypertensive and antioxidant potential. As a result of varying environmental factors, medicinal plants variety in the quality and quantity of their secondary metabolites. The use of medicinal plants has recently become more popular as an alternative to conventional medicines. Their safety and efficacy is therefore worth investigating.
