SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER IN INTERNAL MEDICINE

VACANCY NO: FM/DIM01/2022

Duties: The successful candidates will: (i) teach undergraduate medical students and postgraduate students; (ii) conduct research and/or creative professional works in his/her areas of expertise and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students’ research projects (iii) provide service to the university, profession and community (iv) provide clinical care in affiliated hospitals; and (v) carry out any other duties as assigned by the Head of the department.

Requirements

Senior Lecturer: (i) at least a Masters of Medicine (MMed) or equivalent PLUS evidence of sub-specialty; (ii) a first degree in medicine (MBBS, MD or MBChB or equivalent qualification) from a recognised institution; (iii) at least 3 years relevant teaching experience at a University or comparable institution; (iv) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publication and experience in supervising students’ research projects; (v) the qualification must be registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (vi) evidence of governance and social engagement; (vii) minimum of 6 pieces of research products published by recognised publishers, 3 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals indexed in internationally recognised indexing databases; (viii) be lead and /or last author in at least 2 of the refereed journal publications; (ix) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (x) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed in texts in other institutions etc.; (xi) recognised as being of at least national research or effective clinical professional standing; (xii) sustained professional research output; a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years; (xiii) the curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of the publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any.  Publications should be categorised into: books, monographs, refereed journals, non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc.

Lecturer: (i) At least a Masters of Internal Medicine (MMed) or equivalent (ii) a first degree in Medicine (MBBS, MD, MBChB or equivalent qualification from a recognized institutionThe following will be added advantages: (i) evidence of governance and social engagement, (ii) experience of teaching at a University or comparable institution, (iii) engagement in research and clinical service work.
