LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN HEMATOPATHOLOGY/CHEMICAL PATHOLOGY/FORENSIC PATHOLOGY

FULL-TIME EQUIVALENT

The candidate will deliver an agreed proportion (%) of the Department’s full-time duties for a limited period of 3-6 months.  The proportion (%) will be determined from the average number of hours of work per week, over which the candidate will be available to carry out clinical duties and teaching.  The candidate may still hold another post at a different institution while serving in the full-time equivalent post at the University.

Duties: the successful applicant will be expected to (i) provide clinical and laboratory training to Master of Medicine Clinical Pathology residents in Hematopathology and/or Chemical Pathology or Forensic Pathology for Master of Medicine Anatomical Pathology residents; (ii) carry out patient  care clinical duties; (iii) carry out any other duties assigned by the head of department.

Requirements:

Associate Professor: the successful applicant should have: (i) a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, MBChB, MD) or equivalent qualification (ii) a Master of Medicine (MMed) or equivalent from a recognised institution in Hematopathology, Chemical Pathology or Forensic Pathology; (iii) the qualification must be registered or registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status in Hematopathology/Chemical Pathology or Forensic Pathology; (iv) at least 6 years relevant teaching experience at  a University or comparable institution; or 3 years of sustained mentorship/practice related training which would be considered as an alternative; (v)        an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publication and experience in supervising students’ research projects; (vi) at least 12 pieces of research products published by recognised publishers, 6 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals indexed in internationally recognised indexing databases; (vii) sustained research output e.g. a minimum of 1.5 peer-reviewed publications per year or new clinical excellence output every 2 years in 6 years; (viii) sustained research activity (ongoing internally and externally funded research projects); (ix) be first and/or last author in at least 4 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (x) publications should be spread internationally and across journals; (xi) recognisable research impact, including but not limited to citations (excluding self-citations), the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, clinical effectiveness, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions, etc; (xii) recognised as being of national but increasingly international research or effective clinical professional standing; (xiii) research collaborations with other institutions or organisations and research collaboration with other institutions or organisations and research collaboration with cognate disciplines in the University; (xiv) successful supervision of 2 Masters students OR co-supervison of 4 Masters students OR supervision of 1 PhD student OR co-supervision of 2 PhD students/Postdoctoral/research fellow supervision; (xv) external examiner for Masters and/or PhD theses nationally and/or internationally; (xvi) evidence of governance, social and academic engagement.

Senior Lecturer: the successful applicant should have: (i) a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, MBChB, MD) or equivalent qualification (ii) a Master of Medicine (MMed) or equivalent from a recognised institution in Hematopathology, Chemical Pathology or Forensic Pathology; (iii) the qualification must be registered or registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status in Hematopathology/Chemical Pathology or Forensic Pathology; (iv) at least 3 years relevant teaching experience at  a University or comparable institution; or 1 year of sustained mentorship/practice related training which would be considered as an alternative; (v)        an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publication and experience in supervising students’ research projects; (vi) at least 6 pieces of research products published by recognised publishers, 3 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals indexed in internationally recognised indexing databases; (vii) sustained research output e.g. a minimum of 1 peer-reviewed publication per year or new clinical excellence output every 2 years in 6 years or since last appointment; (viii) sustained research activity (ongoing internally and externally funded research projects); (ix) be first and/or last author in at least 2 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (x) publications should be spread internationally and across journals; (xi) some research impact, including but not limited to citations (excluding self-citations), the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, clinical effectiveness, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions, etc; (xii) recognised as being of at least national national research or effective clinical professional standing; (xiii) evidence of governance, social and academic engagement.

Lecturer: the successful applicant should have: (i) a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, MBChB, MD) or equivalent qualification (ii) a Master of Medicine (MMed) or equivalent from a recognised institution in Hematopathology, Chemical Pathology or Forensic Pathology; (iii) the qualification must be registered or registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status in Hematopathology/Chemical Pathology or Forensic Pathology; (iv) show evidence of engagement in research, including published journal articles, presenting scholarly work at seminars and conferences locally as well as internationally; participation in research teams and collaborative programs; participation in reference committees.

Added advantages: (i) experience of teaching at a University or comparable institution; (ii) evidence of governance and social engagement.

The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of the publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any.  Publications should be categorised into: books, book chapters, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, etc.
