LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN PAEDIATRICS & ADOLESCENT HEALTH (3-YEAR CONTRACT)

VACANCY NO: FM/DPAH01/2023

Duties: the successful applicant will: (i) teach undergraduate and postgraduate medical students; (ii) conduct research and/or creative professional works in his/her areas of expertise and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students’ research projects; (iii) engage with the university, profession and community; (iv) provide clinical care in affiliated hospitals; and (v) carry out any other duties assigned by the head of department.

REQUIREMENTS:

a) Senior Lecturer: the successful applicant should have: (i) at least a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, MBChB or MD degree) from a recognised institution; (ii) a specialitst qualification in General Paediatrics or Paediatric sub-specialty; (iii) the qualification must be registered with or registrable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status;  (iv) at least 3 years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; or 1 year of sustained mentorship/practice related training which would be considered as an alternative; (v) at least 6 pieces of research products, 3 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals indexed in internationally recognised indexing databases; (vi) sustained research output e.g. a minimum of 1 peer-reviewed publication per year or new clinical excellence output every 2 years in 6 years or since last appointment; (vii) sustained research activity (ongoing internally and externally funded research projects); (viii) be first and/or last author in at least 2 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (ix) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (x) some research impact, including but not limited to citations (excluding self-citations), the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, clinical effectiveness, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions, etc. (xi) recognised as being of at least national research or effective clinical professional standing; (xii)  evidence of governance, professional and community engagement.

b) Lecturer: the successful applicant should have: (i) at least a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, MBChB or MD degree) from a recognised institution; (ii) a specialist qualification in General Paediatrics or Paediatric sub-specialty;  (iii) the qualification must be registered with or registrable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (iv) show evidence of engagement in research, including published journal articles, presenting scholarly work at seminars and conferences locally as well as internationally, participation in research teams and collaborative programmes, participation in reference committees.                                                                                                 

Added advantages: (i) teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (ii) evidence of governance and social engagement. 

The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of the publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any.  Publications should be categorised into: books, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc.
