Brief Biography

Dr. Joyce Kgatlwane has B. Pharm (University of Otago New Zealand) Pharm D (University of Florida USA) MPH (University of Texas School of Public Health USA). Lecturer, Faculty of Health Sciences, School of Pharmacy. Developed the UB Pharmacy curriculum. One of the founders of Medication Utilization Research In Africa (MURIA)-Group and coordinates MURIA activities in Botswana (organized national and international workshops and symposia on medication utilization). Currently part of the team for R21 Grant for a study, Reducing Stigma to Improve HIV/AIDS Prevention, Treatment and Care among the Adolescents Living with HIV in Botswana.

Worked for Ministry of Health (MoH), as Hospital/Clinical Pharmacist in various hospitals, worked under Botswana Drugs Essential Action Programme at the MoH coordinating the development/review of treatment guidelines and developed the first Botswana Essential Medicines List. Coordinated and participated in rational medicines use activities.

Worked for Botswana Harvard AIDS Institute Partnership training and mentoring health care providers for the roll out of the HIV and AIDs management and logistic and inventory control of medicines. 

Dr Kgatlwane was part of the team tasked by the University of Botswana to prepare Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital to manage COVID 19 patients on behalf of Ministry of Health and Wellness.

Areas of research interest include adherence to medicines, medication utilization and rational use med errors.
