Brief Biography

Dr W. M. Baratedi was born during the Mid 60s in Moshupa. He did his primary and lower secondary education in the same village before going to Lotsane S.S.S., Palapye where he completed his Secondary Education. Dr Baratedi went on to pursue his Nursing career at the then National Health Institute (NHI) and completed his diploma in 1988. He was employed by the Kweneng District council but was further sent to study Midwifery for a year at NHI. In 1991 He resigned from the council to join the Military. He did basic Military Officer Cadet training for a year thereafter worked in Francistown. In 1995 He went on to study Bachelor of Nursing Education at the University of Botswana. It was then that he was transferred to the Military Headquarters and was appointed a training officer, Nurse in-charge, officer commanding, and recruitment officer. During the civilian uprising in Lesotho in 1999, he was posted as part of the peace keeping force to mediate in Lesotho uprising. On coming back from Lesotho He went to UB to study Masters of Nursing Sciences. In 2005, He went to India to study Officer Recruitment course, which was followed by Clinical nursing course in, China in 2007. On coming back from China, he enrolled to study Doctor of Literature and Philosophy in Health studies with the University of South Africa. On retiring from the Military in 2011, he joined the Institutes of Health Sciences as a lecturer, teaching midwifery b. Dr Baratedi finally joined the University in 2015

Teaches Adult Health Nursing courses for both undergraduate and Graduate programmes

Teaches Research for both Graduate and under graduate programmes

Teaches Advanced Concepts in Nursing for Masters programme

Teaches HIV care, management and control to Undergraduate students 

Supervises clinical practicums for undergraduate students. 

Research Areas

Dr W. M. Baratedi's research interest is in Non-communicable conditions, HIV and AIDS and Education. However, with current evolution regarding Covid 19, Dr Baratedi has has joined the rest of the nursing fraternity in search for the causes, management and ways to mitigate its effects among humanity. Currently, Dr Baratedi is engaged on a study to find out experiences of adolescents who acquired HIV vertically; Experiences of Deaf people in accessing health care in Sub-Saharan Africa
