Dr. Alabi is a Structural Engineer and academic with a strong background in teaching, research, and innovation in the built environment. He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Civil and Structural Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria, and earned his PhD in Structural Engineering from the City University of Hong Kong. He has extensive experience in postgraduate supervision, having guided several Master’s and PhD students in advanced areas of structural engineering, including computational modelling, smart infrastructure, and sustainable construction materials. His research is driven by the need to develop innovative and practical solutions that address infrastructure challenges in developing regions.
Dr. Alabi is actively involved in internationally funded research initiatives. He is a key participant in the “Catalysing Sustainable Futures in Africa” project under the Higher Education Partnerships in Sub-Saharan Africa (HEP SSA) programme, funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering (2024–2025), where the University of Botswana serves as a Spoke University. He is also the Principal Investigator of a NRF project supported by TETFund, Nigeria, focusing on the development of a Ballasted Safety Monitoring System under operational conditions. Additionally, he has contributed to cutting-edge research on the development of polymer-based mortar for 3D printing in construction, supported by the Dept of Science and Innovation, South Africa.
