Brief Biography

I am a Professor of Aquatic biology and Ecotoxicology since 2016. Joined the University of Botswana in June 2025. My sundry studies of streams, creeks, rivers, wetlands, ocean and estuaries of the Niger Delta water-web provide useful information on the region’s aquatic ecology and insights for managing the ecosystems sustainably. I am an established scholar and a leading expert in Aquatic Ecology, Environmental Impact Assessment, Biodiversity and Ecotoxicology. I have and still managing large research projects and involved in several collaborative studies across the globe. I have a teaching and research experience in the University for over two decades and have supervised several undergraduate and postgraduate research projects including 20 PhD graduates and several consultancy projects. I have a postdoctoral research experience from the Institute for Water Research, Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa in 2009 and was a visiting researcher on River Conservation to Senckenberg Natural Museum, Gelnhausen, Germany in 2014 and University of Mississippi, USA in 2015. My research accomplishment is evidenced by over 200 journal publications, eleven invited talks, 40 conference abstracts, 10 of which are at the international level. I am currently the President of Freshwater Biological Association of Nigeria (FBAN), a fellow of Zoological Society of Nigeria (ZSN) and Water Institute of Southern Africa (WISA)
