UB Fundraising Golf Day to kick-off at Noon

The University of Botswana Foundation will host its 14th Annual Fundraising Golf Day event on November 30, 2018 at the Gaborone Golf Club with over 34 golf teams participating.

As the fundraising arm of the University of Botswana, the Foundation grows a Graduate Endowment Fund to advance higher education, and the UBF Golf Day has become a major calendar event in the golfing fraternity and the corporate world geared to build this fund.

The endowment fund was set up in 2004 with an investment of just over P1 million to ensure that as many Batswana as possible have access to higher education. The fund has since made important contribution towards meeting the strategic objective of increasing the number of full-time graduate students at the University.

The first set of 10 scholarships were awarded during the 2004/5 academic year from the interest earned on the Endowment Fund, and a further two were awarded from contributions made by Books Botswana and Botswana Insurance Fund Management (BIFM). At present over 300 have been awarded scholarships, and the fund stands at over P8 million.

The annual golf event is largely sponsored by BancABC, which has been the Platinum sponsor during the last four years. Other companies involved advertise on the golf course, display merchandise on the grounds and/or sponsor at least one team, often dressed in accordance with their brand.

The colourful day ends late in the evening with the winner of the prize for best-dressed team, and many other categories, following which participants are treated to music and food.
