RATIONALE
This Basic Sejong Korean Language course equips beginners with practical communication skills for educational, professional, and personal growth. The program focuses on the four core skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing equipping students with what it takes to be an all-rounded language student. Students will engage in everyday contexts like greetings, introductions, asking for directions as well as simple conversations, preparing learners to operate effectively in the global marketplace. This program empowers students to communicate with greater competence, promotes respect for linguistic diversity, and contributes to stronger international cooperation and interconnectedness.
PURPOSE
- To equip learners with foundational korean language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) for everyday communication.
- To develop a practical understanding of korean culture, social norms, and business etiquette.
- To prepare participants for further academic study, enhance career prospects, or enrich personal intercultural experiences.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- To acquire competence in reading, writing and manipulating Hangeul (korean alphabet)
- To acquire competence in pronouncing Korean sounds and basic words
- To develop basic vocabulary to hold a conversation.
- To acquire competence in constructing basic korean sentences.
- To acquire competence in asking simple questions and responding to simple questions
- To acquire competence in giving simple directions.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
- As a beginner’s course, the course is intended for anyone who has no prior knowledge of Korean and is interested in understanding Korean.
- Basic literacy skills.
- Completion of an online King Sejong korean language aptitude test
- A passion for learning and commitment to regular attendance are essential.

- Blended learning resources including a core textbook, audio-visual materials, and access to our online learning platform for practice.

CERTIFICATION
A Certificate of Competence will be awarded by the King Sejong Institute Foundation to students who meet the minimum attendance (70%) and pass the final assessment with the average requirement (60%). The certificate shows the name of the candidate, date of completion, and the details of the course module completed.
