RATIONALE
The intermediate English proficiency course is a programme for people who want to improve their English communication skills – both written and spoken. The course incorporates five language skills – reading, writing, grammar, listening and speaking. The programme provides an environment for improving language skills by providing practical language practice situated in everyday situations such as introducing oneself, giving directions and/or writing a business letter and reports.
PURPOSE
This course helps learners improve their basic English communication skills and grammar. It incorporates all the communication skills of speaking, reading, writing and listening. It is, therefore, a practical course that requires learners to display and practice all these skills in different contexts.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- To be able to talk about themselves and their daily activities
- To use English effectively to communicate in a group setting and keep a conversation going
- To be able to listen critically and effectively to an oral text.
- To acquire competence in writing simple paragraphs.
- To be able to read, analyse and synthesise information from simple texts such as newspaper articles
- To be able to contextualize the grammar and language skills they learn to improve language retention.
