Rationale
This is a structured 4 day short course aimed at practitioners wishing to gain practical grounding on construction laws and dispute resolution. Construction projects need careful administration of all the phases of the infrastructure or building project. This is continuous exercise which requires a clear understanding of the established legal principles of construction contract law and the regulatory aspects thereof.
Purpose
This course offers a framework for understanding the contracts, legal provisions applicable to construction projects in general and those embedded under specific standard conditions of contract such as the FIDIC, the JBCC Principal Building Agreement (PBA) 2014 and the PROCSA Client/ Consultant Professional Services Agreement, which are used in Botswana. An overview of the dispute resolution mechanisms generally employed in construction claims and disputes will be provided

Target Population
Knowledge of construction contracts is essential for architects, bankers, civil engineers, contractors, sub-contractors, employers, and insurers who are involved in both the civil engineering and building construction projects. It is essential for all these parties to be able to assess the risks involved in construction projects and to appreciate their role in the construction process
