Rationale
- The community-based natural resource management (CBNRM) framework is the major tool for driving community and rural development in Botswana and elsewhere in southern Africa.
- CBNRM has three main goals of improving the local people’s quality of life and reducing rural poverty; enabling the conservation of natural resources (NRs) and ecosystems; and empowering rural communities to make decisions on how to wisely use NRs.
- However, real empowerment and human development are achievable where and when rural capacity is enhanced through the acquisition of necessary skills, knowledge and attitude by the community people themselves.
- Thus, quality leadership that can galvanize both human and material resources in the implementation of CBNRM projects/programs is needed to ensure rural progress and sustainable development.
- This course, therefore, aims to introduce learners to CBNRM and then impart requisite administrative and supervision skills into relevant stakeholders working at the community level both in the formal and informal sectors.

- To familiarize learners with various principles and strategies of managing people and resources in a relatively complex human organization.
