Rationale
- Organisations throughout the world are constantly striving to take issues of health and safety with the seriousness they deserve. The possible explanation of this could be the intermittent technological changes and the persistence of unsafe working environment.
- The promotion of a safe working environment is crucial for success of any business across sectors of the economy, be it health, education, mining, tourism or catering, etc. As such it is important for Organisations to train their employees on health and safety issues.
Purpose
- The learners should be able to recognise and report hazards within their working environment to the relevant authority. The person credited with this unit standard will be able to understand Botswana legislation, policies and ILO/UDOHR recommended practices that apply to occupational health and safety; the impact that non-compliance would have in the workplace and understand the inspection protocols applicable to the workplace.
- Learners will also be able to carry out physical inspections and record, report and deal with the results of the inspection in order to implement corrective and preventative actions in line with existing policies and international standards.
