Diplomacy and Protocol

Rationale

  • The course aims to equip national government officials, international organisations staff, practicing diplomats, civil servants, and those who wish to refresh or expand their knowledge of international protocol, corporate/business executives and PR consultants with the knowledge and expertise required in their daily duties.
  • The course will prepare you to interact confidently and effectively with very senior individuals, in formal and structured situations. It covers a full range of rules, conventions and customs and expectations that professional communicators must master in order to work professionally with VIPs and in high level business.

Purpose

Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the need for protocol in diplomacy and how to use it effectively in supporting their roles. On completion of the course, participants gain confidence to assist the persuasion of diplomats to support and promote organisations  through aid, political or commercial activities

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate the specialist knowledge required to successfully interact with diplomats and support their managers with interactions.
  • Comply with international diplomatic standard codes of practice.
  • Apply the universal principles of protocol, etiquette, courtesy and manners.
  • Master a thorough understanding of the need for protocol in diplomacy and use it effectively in supporting roles.
  • Display appropriate international business protocol and etiquette considering; people, culture and religion, in many contexts

Target Population

National government officials, international organisations staff, practicing diplomats, civil servants, and those who wish to refresh or expand their knowledge of international protocol, corporate/business executives.

Delivery Mode

A range of assessment methods will be used, including: 

  • Facilitation
  • Simulation of tasks
  • Direct observation (watch the practitioner carry out the task or produce a desired outcome)
  • Group activities, Case studies
  • Questioning (verbal or written) - ask relevant questions linked to the unit standard
  • Participate in site visits to reinforce classroom concepts and contribute to long term professional development

  • Produce and present reports
  • Peer review
  • Case studies
  • Feedback received from participants through daily evaluation forms
  • Provision of learner support through question and answer review sessions

Recognition of Prior Learning

  • Industry experience
  • BGCE and higher academic attainment (Certificate in a related field)

Attend 98% of the course to qualify for the certificate
