Rationale

  • Research has become an increasingly important tool for decision makers who need better insights into potential problems and opportunities.
  • Research Techniques and Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) course continue to play an important role in addressing many kinds of problems, and or as part of an integrated information system.

Purpose

  • The course provides training in an important subset of skills needed to conduct a survey form the beginning to the end using SPSS. 
  • Handling statistical data is an essential part of physiological research, however many people find the idea of using statistics, and especially statistical software packages such as SPSS extremely daunting.
  • On completion of the course, learners should be able to understand how to start SPSS, define a variety of statistical variables, enter basic data into SPSS, carry out a statistical analysis that can test hypothesizes and write suitable reports based on statistical information and/or statistical analysis.
