Moses Fredrick Katumba is currently a Lecturer of Radiation and Health Physics at the Department of Physics, University of Botswana. He is a qualified Medical Physicist who earned his Msc in Physics at University of Witwatersrand, School of Physics. Mr. Katumba had his first opportunity to practice at Mulago Hospital in Uganda where he served as a Medical Physicist, from 2009 to 2011. He practiced and demonstrated the justification and optimization processes for EBRT regimens, the QA tests and checks on Co-60 Machine, TPP TPS, calibration of equipment, and Cs-137 Brachytherapy. Mr. Katumba is a pioneer staff of the substantive secretariat at Atomic Energy Council (AEC) in Uganda. He worked as a Radiation Protection Officer (Dosimetry) from 2011 to 2015. He initiated and carried compliance inspections, processed personnel radiation readings, maintained RAIS and SARIS, and authorized operations of radiation sources and facilities.
While acting as head of the Nuclear and Instrumentation Division at AEC, he served as a National Project Counterpart for two IAEA Regional Projects i.e. RAF0041 - Sharing Best Practices in Preventive Maintenance of Nuclear Equipment and RAF9046 - Compliance Assurance in Safe Transport of Radioactive Material. He served as the RASIMS National Coordinator, overseeing the operations and reporting on the activities under the IAEA Thematic Safety Areas 1 - 7 in Uganda. He was a member of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) sub-committee (UNBS/TC 9) on metrology for development of radiation standards. He is activities over time have seen him visiting and sometimes representing Uganda in different places around the globe. He has been at the ERPA in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; at the ANL in Argonne Illinois, USA; at the RPAZ in Harare, Zimbabwe; at ICTP in Miramare, Trieste, Italy; at Kenyatta Hospital, and Kenya Bureau of Standards in Nairobi, Kenya; at IAEA in Seibersdorf, Austria; at GAEC in Accra, Ghana; at RPA in Port louis, Mauritius; at RPA Yaoundé, Cameroon; at TAEC in Arusha, Tanzania; at the DRPI in Gaborone Botswana.
Mr. Katumba who is a Pentecost is married to Ms Flavia Naluyinda, a Criminologist. The couple is blessed with Abigail L.N.X Katumba as the daughter. He is a follower of Sports Club Villa (UGA), Township Rollers (BOT), Ajax Cape Town (RSA), Nottingham Forest (ENG) and Arsenal FC (ENG) football clubs.
