Vice Chancellor, Professor David Norris, recently hosted the UB Hawks Football Team for an appreciation dinner at his residence following the team’s advancement to the Debswana First Division League. The Hawks secured a first division berth during promotional games played in Jwaneng recently.

Professor Norris congratulated the UB Hawks for such a feat, saying it was perseverance, determination, and discipline that earned the team promotion. He further encouraged the players to maintain their fighting spirt, adding that the University would support their endeavor to reach the Botswana Premier League. Professor Norris also awarded prizes to outstanding players of the season. The players who received the prizes are Bonno Sepako who received the Vice Chancellor’s Award while Unabata Mbaiwa went home with five awards - Player of the Season Award, Top Goal Scorer, Striker of the Season, Player’s Player of the Season, and Supporters Player of the Season Award.

Chairman’s Award went to Basimanebotlhe Alex Malete with Philimon Setlhotlha scooping the Most Improved Player of the Season while Pako Osupile received the Most Disciplined Player Award. Defender of the Season went to Harvey Matema and Goalkeeper of the Season was awarded to Tom Malesela. The Middle Fielder of the Season Award went to Oratile Setombeko, Leadership Award went to Lesly Modiradilo and Youngest Player of the Season Award taken by Silent Kenneth.

Giving an overview of the promotional games, veteran UB Hawks player and Chairman, Modisakgosi Mokibe said it was their utmost responsibility to reinstate the Hawks back to the first division league. He said their hope was to see the team dominating the premier league. UB Hawks Vice Chairperson, Mogomotsi Mokgosi, congratulated the players for their dedication and appealed to the UB community to support the boys through the coming season. Closing the evening, UB Hawks Head Coach and Chairman’s Award winner, Basimanebotlhe Alex Malete, encouraged the players to maintain their fighting spirit. He thanked the UB community for its continued support.
