University of Botswana Social Work Society Hosts End-of-Semester Handover Ceremony

KingselyThe University of Botswana Social Work Society (UBSWS) hosted an end-of-semester handover ceremony on the 18th May 2026, at Block 139, under the theme ‘Continuity of Care, Continuity of Change’. The event brought together members, student leaders and guests to celebrate the society’s achievements, reflect on the semester’s activities and officially usher in new leadership. The ceremony also marked the inauguration of the UBSWS football team, an initiative aimed at promoting teamwork, wellness and unity among social work students.

In his welcome remarks, outgoing University of Botswana Social Work Society (UBSWS) President, Mr Kopano Vincent, expressed gratitude to members and executive committee for their dedication and commitment throughout the semester. He highlighted the importance of unity, leadership and service within society, urging incoming leaders to continue advancing the values of social work. Mr Vincent welcomed the inauguration of the UBSWS football team, describing it as a positive step towards promoting teamwork, student wellness and stronger engagement among members.

The UBSWS officially unveiled its new executive committee, ushering in a fresh era of leadership and commitment to student development and social advocacy. The new committee is led by Kingsley Nwaigwe as president, alongside Princess Tshuma as vice president, Maano Taolo as secretary general, Sedilame Thuso as treasurer, Tumelo George as transport officer, Thabiso Masi as project coordinator, Rapelang Keipolele as publicity secretary, Ludo Morgan as health officer and Ginnian Pogiso as student representative. The newly elected exco expressed readiness to work collaboratively in promoting the interests of social work students, strengthening student engagement and advancing the society’s mission within the University of Botswana community.

The president of the Student Representative Council (SRC), Neville Sechele, encouraged the incoming committee of the University of Botswana Social Work Society (UBSWS) and the newly inaugurated football team to remain disciplined, united and committed to excellence in all their endeavors. ‘Leadership to serving the students with integrity, passion and accountability while working together to strengthen the society and create meaningful impact within the university community’, he said. Addressing the football team, Sechele emphasized the importance of teamwork, dedication and resilience, encouraging the players to represent the university with pride, sportsmanship and determination both on and off the field.

NwaigweMr Kingsley Nwaigwe, the incoming president of the University of Botswana Social Work Society (UBSWS), expressed gratitude to the outgoing leadership and pledged to continue promoting unity, student welfare and professional growth within the society. He highlighted the importance of teamwork and active student participation in ensuring the success of the society’s initiatives. Nwaigwe also commended the University of Botswana for its continued support in empowering student organisations through providing platforms, resources and guidance that contribute to student leadership development and holistic learning experiences.
