The University of Botswana, Faculty of Business, hosted a three-day 6th International Conference on Business Growth and Innovation, themed “Navigating Dynamic Business Landscapes through Developing Sustainable and Innovative Strategies.” This significant event was taking place at the Library Auditorium from the 23rd to the 25th of June 2025, bringing together leading scholars, industry experts, and practitioners to explore and share insights on fostering sustainable growth and innovation in today’s rapidly evolving business environment.
The 6th International Conference on Business Innovation and Growth was entirely characterised by a rich lineup of panel discussions and masterclasses that delved deep into the conference theme. Panel sessions brought together thought leaders from across sectors to explore such as Student-led Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship (ICE) Clubs in secondary schools- A YALSmart Initiative and how do special economic zones contribute to the innovation and sustainability of business. Each discussion emphasised the need for organisations to adapt proactively by embedding sustainability and innovation into their core operations. Masterclasses offered participants a more interactive learning experience, focusing on tools for scenario planning, sustainable value creation, and innovation-driven leadership.
Dr. O’Brien Mkhali provided an in-depth overview of key thematic tracks that showcased the cutting-edge research and practical applications presented at the conference. He highlighted how the digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), and innovation in business track illuminated the pivotal role of technology in driving competitive advantage, operational efficiency, and customer-centric solutions across industries. The discussions revealed how AI is being leveraged not only to automate processes but also to foster creativity and strategic decision-making in complex business environments. Dr. Mkhali also emphasised the rich insights from the consumer behavior track, where changing consumer preferences toward sustainability, digital engagement, and brand authenticity were extensively explored. Further, in the food security and brand perceptions sessions, presenters underscored the critical interplay between local food systems, consumer trust, and the power of branding to enhance market access and resilience. Additionally, the tourism perceptions and experiences track shed light on the integration of digital platforms in tourism marketing, and the importance of cultural authenticity in shaping memorable experiences.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ishmael Radikoko delivered a comprehensive summary of finance-related tracks, beginning with corporate finance, pensions, and institutional investment dynamics, where research focused on strategic asset allocation, sustainable investment frameworks, and governance reforms designed to optimize long-term returns while addressing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria. He also detailed discussions from the finance, fiscal policy, and economic performance track, which examined the nuanced effects of fiscal discipline, taxation policies, and monetary interventions on economic growth and business confidence, particularly in emerging economies. Importantly, Mr. Radikoko highlighted the growing significance on youth entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship, noting how the sessions explored innovative models to nurture youth talent, foster entrepreneurial mindsets within organizations, and overcome barriers to market entry. Together, Dr. Mkhali and Mr. Radikoko’s summaries painted a holistic picture of the conference, reflecting its commitment to fully exploring the depth and breath of the dynamics within business front through interdisciplinary dialogue and actionable strategies that promote sustainable growth and innovation.
In his remarks, Professor Biza Khupe, Editor of the Journal of Business, commended the high calibre of research and dialogue presented throughout the 6th International Conference on Business Innovation and Growth. He expressed his appreciation for the diversity of perspectives shared, emphasising the importance of scholarly contributions that are both academically rigorous and practically relevant.
