University of Botswana Delivers High-Impact Professional Training for Debswana

DebswanaThe University of Botswana's Department of Professional Education and Development (DPED) continues to demonstrate its commitment to transforming workplaces through professional capacity building, skills enhancement and the delivery of high-quality, industry-responsive training.

On the 29th of October 2026, DPED successfully facilitated a specialised workshop on Collective Bargaining and Needs-Based Wage Negotiations for Executive Management and Union Leadership representatives at Debswana's Gaborone offices.

The training, facilitated by Dr Rudolph Boy, was designed to strengthen participants' knowledge and practical competencies in collective bargaining, effective wage negotiations and constructive labour relations. It focused on equipping management and union representatives with the skills to identify underlying interests, engage in meaningful dialogue, explore mutually beneficial solutions and build consensus towards sustainable wage agreements.

The workshop provided an important platform for strengthening mutual understanding, fostering collaboration and promoting constructive engagement between management and organised labour, particularly in preparation for wage negotiations. A particularly rewarding outcome of the engagement was the positive feedback from Debswana, which commended the University of Botswana for the quality of professional training delivered and the professional standard of delivery.

This endorsement is a significant affirmation of DPED's commitment to delivering relevant, practical and impactful professional development interventions that respond to the evolving needs of organisations and the workplace.

The successful engagement with Debswana demonstrates the value of strategic partnerships between academia and industry and reinforces the University's role as a trusted partner in developing the competencies required for organisational effectiveness and sustainable national development.
