The University of Botswana recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Infiny-Tech with the aim of developing future skills as well as embarking on research that promotes sustainable scholarly and community activities.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration, Mr Lopang Mosupi, expressed his excitement that the MoU was coming at a critical time when the University of Botswana was undergoing transformation into a high-performance organisation.
Vice Chancellor, Professor David Norris, emphasized the need to translate the MoU into action. He mentioned that the University of Botswana was in the process of establishing a Software Development Hub, an initiative that would help drive Botswana towards a knowledge-based economy.
Professor Norris observed that the MoU was in line with UB’s new strategy given that it was anchored on research and innovation as core values of the transformation process.
Infiny-Tech Managing Director, Mr Mooketsi Nthate, described the company as an indigenous software development company, investing in software that promoted financial and digital inclusion encompassing affordable digital devices. Mr Nthate said they offer solutions in different sectors and have developed software applications for big institutions such as Water Utilities Corporation.
He stated that they bring value to the market by developing solutions that hinge on mobile technology as it is grassroots technology. He added that collaboration with UB would help to incorporate expertise into products for mutual benefit for both organisations.
