UBLS Alumni Association pledges support to UB management

University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland (UBLS) Alumni Association office bearers paid Vice Chancellor, Professor David Norris, a courtesy call on July 24, 2018 to pledge their support to help the university realise its vision and mission. The members also pledged to share experience and knowledge to grow the UB Foundation.

The former students were Mr Phillip Moathodi Matsetse, Mrs Stella Monageng, Mrs Irene Kwape, Ms Malebogo Bakwena, Mrs Festina Bakwena, Mr Alphius Matlhaku and Ms Leloba Molema.

Speaking at the event, Professor Norris said engaging the alumni network would allow the University to benefit from skills and experience of its graduates. He urged the former students to contribute to the University through public lectures as well as guest lecturers and advisors to help in knowledge transfer. Consequently, he added, such contribution would further improve capacity and reputation of the University.

Professor Norris, however, decried the challenges the University was grappling with, among them, financial constraints. He pleaded with the alumni association to also come up with ideas aimed at improving and raising funds for the University. The Vice Chancellor extended gratitude towards the UB alumni for the courage, commitment and support they had shown towards the University.

Speaking on behalf of the alumni, Mrs Festina Bakwena, who is UBLS President, promised to work together with the University Executive Management to strengthen confidence, improve motivation and inculcate the right culture in line with what the University intended to instil in its students. She also pledged support in various aspects that would be beneficial to students, alumni, University and society in general.

Mr Matsetse, Mrs Monageng and Mrs Kwape also shared the same sentiments and expressed willingness to share knowledge and experience in helping to grow the UB Alumni Association in terms of activities and membership. They also assured the Vice Chancellor of the association’s commitment to strengthening relations with UB management and community.
