UB & Technovalley Africa Sign MoU to create Internship Opportunities for 25 000 Youths

THEUniversity of Botswana and Technovalley Africa have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at creating internship opportunities for UB students and graduates.

Technovally is a global leading software consulting company offering training in artificial intelligence, cyber security and data analysis, among others, and is currently setting up its Africa office in Botswana.

According to Technovalley Africa Chairperson, Mrs Vidya Sanooj, approximately 25 000 youth in Botswana, among them University of Botswana students, would be enrolled in upskilling internship programmes.

Ms Sanooi said the sole purpose of the initiative was to transform youth from academic standards to industry standards, technically and digitally.

“What is lacking in the current world is that everyone has academic standards but have difficulty transforming to industrial standards, thus we will upskill Batswana youth by creating a startup culture,’’ added Ms Sanooj.

TechIn response, Acting UB Vice Chancellor, Professor Doreen Ramogola-Masire, reiterated that the UB strategy aimed at producing quality graduates that were relevant and industry ready. Therefore, the MOU with Technovalley Africa would enable the university to achieve its mandate. Courses and programmes offered by Technovalley Africa will be BQA accredited.
