University of Botswana Staff Sports and Recreation Association (UBSSRA) has extended a helping hand to Sexaxa Primary School in Maun, through a donation of a printer and stationery on 26 September 2025. The gesture, made near the Okavango Research Institute (ORI) Campus, reflects UB’s continued commitment to education, community empowerment and social responsibility.
Welcoming the UBSSRA delegation, Kgosi Tlhaloganyo Lekang of Sexaxa Village, expressed gratitude for the donation, describing it as a meaningful contribution that would uplift both teachers and learners. He emphasised that partnerships between communities and institutions such as the University of Botswana played a vital role in promoting educational development and fostering stronger relationships.
The Director of the Okavango Research Institute (ORI), Dr Oliver Moses, commended UBSSRA for choosing to support a school within the institute’s surrounding community. He noted that the donation demonstrated the University’s spirit of giving back and urged students to use the resources provided as motivation to excel academically.
Also speaking at the event, Ms Veronicah Ridge from the regional education office lauded UBSSRA’s initiative, saying it complemented government efforts to improve learning conditions in rural areas. She encouraged teachers and pupils to make the best use of the donated items, adding that such partnerships inspired hope and advanced the goal of quality education for all.
UBSSRA Chairperson, Mr Taolo Mpolokang, explained that the association’s donation formed part of an ongoing relationship with Sexaxa Primary School. He said the printer would ease administrative work while the stationery would directly support learners’ studies. Mr Mpolokang reaffirmed UBSSRA’s commitment to strengthening its community outreach efforts, saying the association would continue to identify new opportunities to assist the school and surrounding communities.
Representing Wild Impact, the main donor of Sexaxa Primary School, Mr Skipa Mareja, praised UBSSRA for complementing their efforts. He emphasised that education was a shared responsibility and collaborative partnerships such as this one ensured that rural schools had access to resources needed for effective learning.
In her closing remarks, the school’s head, Ms Keabonye Maoto, expressed heartfelt appreciation to UBSSRA, noting that the donation would make a tangible difference in improving the school’s operations and learning environment. She assured the association that the items would be used effectively to benefit both learners and teachers.
