The University of Botswana (UB) Social Work Society in collaboration with Gaborone Senior School, hosted a Form 5 Motivational Seminar on the 27th of June 2026 at Gaborone Senior School under the theme, "Building a Winning Mindset for Academic Success and Future Opportunities." The seminar was organised to inspire and empower Form 5 students by equipping them with the motivation, confidence and practical skills required to excel academically while preparing them to seize future educational and career opportunities. Through engaging presentations and interactive discussions, the event encouraged students to cultivate resilience, set meaningful goals and develop a positive mindset for lifelong success.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Thatayaone Masunga from Army Leaders Organisation underscored the importance of cultivating a winning mindset as the foundation for academic achievement and future success. Dr Masunga encouraged the students to remain focused on their educational goals, embrace discipline and persevere through challenges with determination and resilience. “Success is not solely determined by intelligence but also by attitude, consistency and a willingness to learn from setbacks. One should believe in their potential, make responsible choices and take advantage of every opportunity available to them,” he observed. He further reminded them that the habits and decisions they make today would shape their future careers and personal development.
Meanwhile, students participated in interactive group discussions focusing on effective study habits and revision strategies, exam preparation and time management. The sessions provided practical techniques for organising study schedules, managing examination pressure and maximizing productivity. The discussions were complemented by a brief motivational presentation by a former UB student, Onako Shana, who emphasised the importance of confidence and self-belief in achieving academic success. He encouraged students to trust in their abilities, maintain a positive attitude and remain determined in pursuing their academic goals despite challenges.
School Head, Ms Dineo Gabete, expressed appreciation to the UB Social Work Society for organising the motivational seminar and investing in the academic and personal development of the Form 5 students. Ms Gabete encouraged the students to apply the knowledge and motivation gained from the seminar in their studies and daily lives, expressing confidence that the lessons shared would positively impact their academic performance and future aspirations.
