University of Botswana women’s rugby team, UB Rhinos, received silver medals for second spot after a 5-7 setback against Botswana Defence Force Cheaters in a Women’s League Cup final at Wharic Park on September 4, 2022.
UB Rhinos proceeded to the final after dominating Savage 5-0 in the semi-finals. Rhinos’ semi-finals qualification followed a gold they won after emerging victorious against GRFC Hogs in the 7th series tournament. Rhinos were excellent throughout the games, controlling possession, territory and enjoying full support from their fans.
Meanwhile, in the men’s category, UB men’s team settled for position four after trailing 23-27 behind BDF in the play-offs.
Commenting on the performance of the team, UB Rhinos coach, Thapelo Khanda, said he was happy with the performance in that the players displayed confidence, consistency and discipline on the field. He observed that most of the players were youths compared to their opponents BDF who had a lot of experience.
UB Rhinos player, Amogelang Rebatenne, said the team was made up of youngstars and they performed very well against experienced teams.
“All of them have been so dedicated and put in so much hard work to get to this point,” said Rebatenne.
