University of Botswana (UB) Relics women’s basketball team may have fallen short on the scoreboard but their fighting spirit and resilience were on full display during their Botswana Basketball Association (BBA) League (Southern) clash against the formidable Police Ladies at Ba Isago University on the 23rd of May 2025.
Facing one of the league’s most experienced and tactically astute teams, UB Relics rose to the challenge with determination and heart, refusing to back down despite a 79–29 defeat. Police Ladies demonstrated their class with fast-paced transitions, precision shooting and disciplined defence but Relics matched them with courage and flashes of creative play that signalled promise for the future.
While turnovers and missed chances made it difficult for Relics to close the gap, the team gained valuable experience and identified key areas for growth. Head Coach and players alike viewed the encounter as a learning opportunity, highlighting the need for improved defensive communication and sharper offensive execution in upcoming matches.
The game reflected the growing competitiveness of women’s basketball in Botswana, with both teams contributing to a thrilling showcase of athleticism and sportsmanship. UB Relics' display of teamwork, energy and never-say-die attitude earned them respect and admiration from the crowd while the match served as an encouraging reminder of their potential.
With renewed focus and lessons in hand, UB Relics remain committed to developing their game and building on this performance as they continue their journey in the BBA League.
