UB, Mascom Strengthen Ties to Drive Industry-Relevant Research and Workforce Readiness

MascomThe University of Botswana (UB) Management recently held a strategic meeting with a delegation from Mascom led by Chief Executive Officer, Ms Dzene Makwade-Seboni, to explore potential areas of collaboration with a strong focus on research, innovation and industry-aligned initiatives.

UB Vice Chancellor, Professor David Norris, underscored the importance of partnerships with industry and government at all levels. He stated that the university's ongoing transformation was anchored on research and innovation which were essential for creating a conducive ecosystem to power Botswana’s economy.

" Collaborating with industry partners enables us to conduct relevant research that directly addresses the country's challenges," reiterated Professor Norris.

As a collaborative partner, Mascom aims to attract technology and digitally inclined students while contributing to curriculum development to better align teaching and learning with industry needs. In addition, Mascom supports the University through guest lectures, offering students valuable industry insights and helping prepare them for the workforce.

The existing partnership between Mascom and UB particularly through the Departments of Engineering and Computer Science includes student internships and sponsorships for top-performing graduates which further strengthens the link between academia and industry. Both parties expressed optimism about expanding these initiatives to further benefit students and the broader community.
