The University of Botswana (UB) continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental sustainability through its “UB Green Campus Initiative”, a programme aligned with the national call for a cleaner, greener Botswana.
As part of this commitment, the University lunched its monthly National Clean‑Up Campaign event on the 14th February 2026, bringing together students, staff and campus volunteers in a shared effort to protect the environment.
The initiative focuses on promoting a culture of cleanliness, responsible waste management, and environmental stewardship within the university community. Participants gathered across key zones of the campus to pick up litter, sort recyclables and raise awareness about environmental protection.
Beyond the clean‑up exercise, the campaign also served as an educational platform to encourage the UB community to adopt eco‑friendly practices such as reducing waste, reusing materials and supporting recycling programs.
Speaking at the event, UB Vice Chancellor, Professor David Norris, said the UB Green Campus Initiative aimed to create a cleaner learning environment while inspiring long‑term behavioural change.
He said by integrating monthly clean‑up sessions into its campus culture, the University of Botswana continued to lead by example, demonstrating that collective action, even during lunch, can make a meaningful difference.
