The University of Botswana (UB) joined hundreds of health advocates on the 21st of February 2026 for the Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) Gaborone Awareness Walk The event was dedicated to raising public awareness on heart diseases as well as the increasing threat posed by non‑communicable conditions.
UB’s participation underscored its strong commitment to community wellness, preventive health education and its ongoing efforts to engage the nation in tackling lifestyle‑related health risks.
UB added a strong presence to the event, setting up an information and screening stall that quickly became one of the busiest corners of the campaign grounds. As walkers flooded through before and after the trail, UB staff and students conducted free health assessments, offering screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol levels and other indicators of Non‑Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
Participants were not only eager to know their health status but also appreciative of the personalised guidance provided. The UB team took time to explain the risks, prevention strategies and lifestyle adjustments necessary for maintaining a healthy heart. Many residents left the stall with fresh awareness while some surprised at their own results while others were motivated to make changes.
