UB International Students Association Keeps International Students Busy with Sport

StudThe University of Botswana International Students Association held a recreational sporting event for international students during the university’s short vacation at the UB Stadium on March 21, 2023. The sporting event comprised soccer matches and athletics.

UBISA President, Brilliant Tsabedze, said the purpose of the event was to entertain and engage international students as they were not able to travel home during the break.

He added that by keeping them occupied it prevented them from engaging in activities that could endanger their lives such as excessive alcohol consumption.

Students from Eswatini, Liberia, Lesotho, Tanzania, Germany, USA and many others took part in track activities such as 100m and 200m for both men and women. Simphiwe Sibandze from Eswatini stood out in the men’s category in both races while Nkosingphile Inter StuFakudze and Neliswa Mmema both from Eswatini won the 100m and 200m races respectively.

UBISA played the first football match against Mafia and secured a 2-0 victory from Eswatini’s Linda ‘’Maheu’’ Maseko’s brace.

The highlight of the day was a football match between Liberia and Eswatini. The latter took the lead with two goals in the first ten minutes, much to the amusement of spectators. However, Liberia equalised and soon after took the lead just before the end of the first half. Eswatini equalised in the second half which led to the game ending three all draw.
