UB Holds its 41st Annual Graduation Ceremony on 19th and 20th October

UBThe University of Botswana will have conferred degrees; masters and PhDs to about 2431 graduands in different fields when its 41st Graduation Ceremony which began today, ends tomorrow. Graduating faculties today were Business, Humanities and Social Sciences. Tomorrow, graduating faculties are Education, Engineering and Technology, Health Sciences, Medicine and Science.

Overall, 17 graduands are set to be conferred PhDs while 308 are to receive MPhil and Masters. For undergraduate, 1 861 will receive degrees while 245 will receive diplomas. One of the highlights of this year’s graduation is that for the first time since the University of Botswana was established the post-graduate cohort will comprise Degree of Master of Arts in Media and Communications. The Media Studies Department was established in 2002 and opened doors to its first cohort of post-graduate students in January 2021.

This year’s theme is Leading Innovation and Digital Transformation which underpins the University strategy of Creating a Future for the Knowledge Generation. The theme was adopted as a way of positioning the University of Botswana as champion of Botswana’s innovation and digital transformation agenda given that as a centre for knowledge generation it must play a leading role.

Established in 1982 as Botswana’s premier institution of higher learning and having produced 86 284 graduates to date, the University of Botswana has contributed immensely to the country’s human capital development to drive the economy and social cohesion. Therefore, through its Strategy of 2020-2029, the University of Botswana underlines research and innovation as part of its trajectory towards becoming a premier research-intensive institution of higher learning.
