UB Holds its 38th Graduation Ceremony Today

The University of Botswana will confer degrees; masters and PhDs to about 2500 graduands in different fields during its 38th Graduation Ceremony today (Thursday November 26, 2020).

A record 28 graduands will be conferred PhDs while 368 will receive MPhil, Masters and Post Graduate Diplomas. For undergraduate, 1 885 will receive degrees while 159 will receive diplomas. The numbers represent a steady increase of both post-graduate and under-graduate students graduating this year. Last year the University conferred 24 PhDs, 350 MPhil, Masters and Post Graduate Diplomas, 1 821 Degrees and 259 Diploma. The increase in post-graduate underpins the new University of Botswana Strategy 2020-2029 that underlines research as part of its trajectory towards becoming a premier research-intensive institution of higher learning. 

Unlike previous graduation ceremonies, this year’s graduation ceremony will be different in that it will be held virtually due to COVID-19 protocols that prohibit large gatherings. Consequently, the graduation ceremony will be broadcast live on Botswana Television starting at 9am.

Among the dignitaries who will send Messages of Goodwill to the graduands are His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Botswana, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, the Chancellor, Ms Linah Mohohlo, Chairman of Council, Dr Joseph Makhema and Vice Chancellor, Professor David Norris.
