UB Hawks Show Grit in Crucial Win Over Prisons IV in First Division South League Encounter

HawksThe University of Botswana (UB) Hawks Football Club took a confident step forward in their season campaign with a well-earned 1–0 win against Prisons XI at the SSG Grounds on the 12th of April 2025.

While there’s still ground to cover, the victory marks a turning point and injects renewed optimism into the team’s journey. Now standing in 10th position with 19 points, Hawks are showing signs of momentum with five games left to survive relegation.

From the onset, Hawks demonstrated determination and composure, controlling much of the game through precise passing, strong ball possession and coordinated attacks. The breakthrough came in the 30th minute when striker, Mmoloki Kgaswane, found the back of the net with a well-placed shot inside the 18-yard box after persistent efforts.

Kgaswane had earlier come close twice, once just over the bar and again in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. Fellow forward, Kago Sesiny,i also created several chances though denied by a vigilant Prisons XI defence.

Head Coach, Basimanebotlhe Alex Malete, praised his players for their discipline and character. “This win shows what the team is capable of. The boys were focused, understood the opponent’s game plan and executed our strategy well. We’ll take this energy into our next match,” he said.

With Desert Nxau next on the fixture list after the Easter break, UB Hawks are determined to keep building momentum. The team is staying focused on one match at a time, aiming to finish the season on a strong and confident note.
