UB Giants Ladies Display Resilience in the Southern Zone Softball Eliminations

GiantsOver two (2) intense days of action, rivalry and unwavering dedication, UB Giants Ladies softball team delivered a powerful and determined performance at the Southern Zone Softball Eliminations held at the UB Diamond and National Diamond grounds from the 5th-6th July 2025.

UB Giants opened their campaign against a formidable Police IX side, falling 5 - 9 despite solid hitting and flashes of sharp fielding. Undeterred by the early setback, Giants bounced back in one of the tournament’s most thrilling clashes, edging BMC Rivals 7 - 6 in a nail-biting final inning. Their resilience and composure under pressure shone through as they turned the tide of their fortunes.

Giants carried their momentum into day two, overpowering the determined Panthers in their most complete performance of the tournament and clinching a thrilling 7- 6 victory with timely hits and smart base-running. In their final game, they faced the seasoned BDF IX and despite a valiant effort, fell 3–6 to wrap up their Southern Zone Eliminations campaign.

UB Giants Ladies proved their competitive spirit with a 2 - 2 record in the Southern Zone eliminations, showcasing flashes of brilliance and a promising future. One of the UB coaches noted that while the team had improved overall, defensive play remained a weakness especially given the strong competition from teams such as BDF IX and Police IX.

Despite a spirited effort, UB Giants Ladies fell short of qualifying for the prestigious Selebi Phikwe Softball Extravaganza. Finishing third in Bracket L out of five (5) teams, they narrowly missed the top two spots required for qualification. Still, Giants carry the pride and momentum of a rising team as they prepare to resume training and focus on upcoming competitions with heads held high.
