UB, Ghanzi District Council Explore Potential Collaboration to Support Ghanzi City Ambitions

GhanziGhanzi District Council Chairman and Councillor for Kgaphamadi Central, Hon Thabiso Shane Kebadile, today met with University of Botswana Vice Chancellor, Professor David Norris, where they agreed to explore strategic collaborations aimed at transforming Ghanzi into a city.

Hon Kebadile said the council was looking to the University for expertise that could help unlock the economic potential of the district particularly through effective land utilisation and other development initiatives to uplift the lives of the local population.

He noted that Ghanzi’s vast land, cultural richness and growing infrastructure made it a strong candidate for urban transformation. Professor Norris welcomed the initiative, pledging the University’s readiness to provide technical assistance, research capacity and policy advisory services to support the council’s development agenda.

He added that UB’s commitment to community engagement aligns with Botswana’s broader national development goals. The two leaders also discussed the possibility of establishing satellite programmes and innovation hubs in Ghanzi to build local capacity and attract investment.
