UB Foundation Awards 13 Students Scholarships to Pursue Master’s Degree Programmes

ScholarUniversity of Botswana (UB) Foundation in partnership with Northern Trust has awarded 13 students Scholarships to pursue Master’s Degree Programmes of their choice. The students were awarded the scholarships at UB on the 29th of November 2023.

Of the 13, UB sponsored 11 students while Northern Trust sponsored two (2) to pursue master’s degree programmes at the University. UB Foundation, Acting Board Chairperson, Ms Emeldah Mathe, said during its 21-year existence, the Foundation has endeavoured to be an active partner with the University to promote excellence and education in Botswana.

Ms Mathe said more than 350 students have benefited from the Foundation and 26 from Northern Trust Scholarships. She noted that the foundation also supported students for other needs as well as the UB Disability Unit with assistive devices.

She added that the Foundation has so far donated 462 mobile devices to the less privileged and students with disabilities to enable them to continue accessing their studies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ms Mathe reiterated that they felt indebted to donors and sponsors for continuing supporting the Foundation’s fundraising efforts. She also expressed gratitude towards the main sponsors of the UB Foundation Gala Dinner aimed at raising funds to support less privileged students.

She indicated that the awardees were fortunate to get the opportunity to be awarded the scholarships. Ms Mathe also encouraged the awardees to take keen interest in their studies if they were to have a positive impact in the country.

EkUB Foundation Director, Mrs Reetsang Mhitshane, also encouraged the awardees to aspire to be the best as well as to be employees of repute after leaving UB. She advised the students to have mindset change and focus on their final destination.

Deputy Vice Chancellor, Teaching and Learning, Professor Georges Ekosse, underscored UB’s primary mandate, that it was to engage in impactful research and pursue academic excellence. He also encouraged the students to see themselves as leaders and focus on creating a positive impact in society.
