UB Conducts Executive Management Media Training with Prof JJ Tabane
The University of Botswana (UB) this week organised a media training initiative for its management team. The exercise was part of the UB’s Communications Strategy aimed at fostering and strengthening the institution’s media relations. It also aimed at equipping and supporting UB management with media skills to navigate and engage with diverse media platforms for the benefit of the University.
The training was conducted by eNCA News Anchor and Media, Professor JJ Tabane, alongside Carte Blanche News Anchor and Investigative Journalist, Ms Masa Kekana.
Professor Tabane emphasised the importance of building constructive relationships with the media as well as creating a positive communication culture within the institution, as key to enhancing organisational reputation.
His session entailed effective communication as a University Executive, tapping into a wide range of topics, including ethics, building communication culture, crisis communication, and strategies for optimising engagement across traditional and digital media platforms.
Meanwhile, drawing from her extensive experience in investigative journalism, Ms Masa Kekana highlighted skills required for effective radio and television interviews. Ms Kekana further conducted practical mock interviews for executives to further appreciate the significance of being an efficient interviewee without compromising the reputation of institution.
For her part, Director Public Affairs, Dr Faith Rapuleng-Tuelo, underscored the importance of cultivating a robust communications culture within UB to foster sound communication and relations within the institution. She added that the media training initiative aimed at enhancing the executive management proficiency in media engagement.
Furthermore, she indicated that the training was part of an ongoing process of revatilising the institutions internal and external communications to foster cohesion among stakeholders.
